Hi,

I want to lay homebase floormaker commerical (1/2" thick, ac5 rating) laminate on a concrete slab. The instructions with the flooring state that a DPM under concrete slab is required but also they then say for all floors, use a vapour control layer or similar 0.2mm thick plastic sheet before putting down the underlay.

I have just put down latex level on the 1year old slab which has a DPM under it. Their might be some moisture since I just levelled it, not sure how long I should wait before starting with the underlay. Do I really have to put another layer of moisture control before laying the laminate? I did a test where I taped some of the DPM plastic (left over from the slab laying last year) down on the concrete using duct tape and left it a couple of days - when I removed it there was no moisture or condensation. The slab is within an out building.

thanks

g

All laminate where possible should be installed with underlay.

Most laminate underlays have a DPM built in.

Second one down mate.

Thanks. So is the underlay what they mean by vapour control?

Its just part of the floor kit I bought comes with 3mm foam underlay on a roll, if that's all they mean then sure. I will have to check if the foam has a vapour control layer built in. The kit I'm using is a 10m2 RHE Parquet kit for laminate (http://www.floorwarmingcompany.co.uk/RHE.html) and it comes with foam. I checked first with the maker of the laminate to make sure it's suitable but couldn't get an answer as to why the laminate instructions for the floor require a vapour control layer when their is a DPM under concrete slab already.
