Hi folks, last year we got our coalbunker converted to a downstairs loo for my elderly my mother in law to save her running up and down stairs etc. It was one of those disability grant things so we had no real say in who done the work. everything seemed fine, until recently i noticed a slight swelling around the base of the basin. it's as if the concrete is rising up. could this be a leak under the concrete that has been there from the start but has taken this amount of time to show itself? if so is it a big job to sort out?

Can we have a pic or two

Did they run drains in, or connect to a pipe that was already there.

the main bathroom of the house is right above so i think they just fed the toilet waste into that the water for the taps etc. came from the feed to the washing machine which is next to this washroom. i've attached a few pics. (the handwash is just to give you an idea of how much the floor has risen)

Looks like the altro floor covering has lifted.

See if it pushes down in the bubble.

i don't thinks it's a bubble. It's still quite solid underneath.

That type of floor covering is quite stiff.

Do you know if they glued it down, and is the basin pedestal fixed to the floor with a couple of screws.

Can you try and lift the edge of the Altro where it meets the left wall.

You weren't supposed to rip it up, although it looks like you might be ripping it out.

That looks looks like leveling compound, any idea what was under it.

I would guess there's no proper floor or dpm under there.

there was just the rough concrete floor that was in the coalbunker. i dont think they used a DPM although i wasn't here when that bit of the work was done. i've also noticed a problem near were they connected to the water feed. a tile has cracked due to the floor rising so i think i'll just have to get the guys who down the job in the 1st place to come out and rectify the problem. what should they have done in the first place in case they try to "spin me a yarn"

Don't know to be honest, being a coal shed I would have thought checking the floor would have been essential.

To put it right, you would need to dig the floor up, hardcore, concrete base, dpm and screed.
