chatting with a mate this evening he mentioned a hand plane he owns.

he described it as being of similar design to a stanley number 4 but that it had a lever that enabled the blade to be changed for a new blade easily. he said they were sort of like a stanley knife blade.

and the blade went from edge to edge unlike a standard type of bench plane.

more like how a rebate planes blade goes edge to edge.

anyone ever come across anything like this?

managed to get one today off ebay. was the grand total of £3.70 plus £7 p&p

it must be classed as a bebate plane but can be used as a normal plane also i guess.

heres the link to all the items listed for stanley rb10

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=stan ... b10&_rdc=1

the one i got today doesnt come with a fence or anything. im gonna keep an eye on the ones that doo come up though as for a tenner if i want another with fence etc i can always flog this one on again.

Very interesting , i have never seen one like that is that the exact same as your mates. So the blades can you still buy them or only on ebay , you say some come with a fence is that supplied with them from new? i wonder when were they first manufactured.

i spoke to him and he reakons the one he has is the same as i think the lowest one on that ebay page. theres slight differences but at a guess id say some are a redesigned model. they have the same model code.

again my mate said he buys blades from markets etc. but they seem plentifull on ebay and even if they did become unavailable i guess the one i got cost me a tenner including postage so no great loss.

there seems to be some with fences and they look like being mainly a rebate plane so id say probably they came with a fence as new.

they seem to be included when they come boxed.

god only knows when they were first manufactured lol. a long time ago probably.
