I have a De-Walt planer and I foolishly removed the wrong screws when changing the blades. Serves me right for not reading the instructions first.

I put everything back together but I've messed about with the calibration so I now cant use the adjuster at the front i.e 1mm, 2mm etc. It's no big thing but if possible I'd like to have it calibrated again. The De-Walt repair centre in Co.Durham charge a standard £26 plus any parts which I think is excessive for what I think would be a two minute job (hopefully).

I'll try and get pictures up soon and exact model number but in the meantime does anyone know If I can source a manual where it would have the settings?

Thank you in advance for any helpful replies :-)

try uour local tool shop it should cost between 5 and £10 from the man that sharpens the chisles and drills

i can tell you how to do it with a plastic ruler and a tiny notch :thumbright:

its quite time consuming if you dont have the knack :cb

Are you talking about a bench planer or a thicknesser?

With my Fox thicknesser it has a special blade set up jig as it is difficult to get 10" blades parallel and there are three on the Dewalt. On my bench planer I have just changed my blades and it is tricky to get them right with the adjusting screws. Not sure if the Dewalt is the same as my one but the blade clamp screws have to be very slack to allow the adjustment screws to level the blades. I used an inspection lamp to sight them in with a steel straight edge. I then used a tri square to check that it was all square against the fence.

hi mate. i just recently had my elu planer repaired by buck and hickman. the repair shop is in middlesborough. but i dropped them off at a place on tyne tunnel industrial estate. think it had a sign up saying tool trade or something. not sure if its a buck and hickman dealer or not.

i think i know the screws you mean. allen key heads? as oposed to loosening the 3 retaining bolts?

yeah the tools i have are mainly the rebranded elu stuff. same tools but different colours. only new dewalt tool i have is a impact driver. that sounds kinda rough compared to my mates makita impact driver.

im about to buy a new jigsaw. ive noticed a old model dewalt dw321 on ebay for a hundred quid. new old stock. thats same as an old elu model so might be worth a shot.

argyll ill have a look for that number tomorrow.

Argyll
hi mate, are you fro north or south tyneside? we sometimes use northern tools just off the coast road on the north side.

ill have a look for the forms with that places number on for ya.

my elu planer has gone well off calibration now so its used for rough work only. the front plate doesnt adjust correctly anymore. for example it wont set up to plane off half a mil anymore.

that place should be able to fix it for ya. well when i get ya the number it will.

actually. would it not just be a case of setting the planer to 0mm and using a straight edge set the blades to just touch the straight edge? and then nip em up?

fairly close but you need to set the handle for 1mm

slowly tighten the adjustment screw untill the blade protrudes 1mm do this on all 4 points

then to fine tune

draw a mark on a plastic ruler about 3 inches back
select a point exactly over an adjustment screw

sit the ruler on the base rotate until the blade touches the line
mark the front off the ruler on the base plate
as you turn the blade the ruler will lift
keep the line and blade moving together
at the point the blade leaves the ruler draw a mark on the base plate again

you need to measure this gap and make shure all points travel an equal distance
but remember this must be done over the adjustment screw

Fin I actually live in Falkirk Scotland but I know the North East very well particularly around Durham as I lived there for several years. I'm down there every 3 weeks.

That number would be helpful mate thanks.
