Looking at the dedicated sections of power tool reviews; I see a lot is aimed at the more pro end of the market. I was thinking that a section dedicated to the cheapo stuff might be useful as it’s a bit of a mine field. The aim of this would be directly for the DIY market or possible trade who needs a once off jobby. Keeps within the spirit of the website

Buying pro versions may come down to personal preference but all will do the job I assume, however with the cheaper stuff, it’s a real hit or miss. Some won’t even do one job

Tool makes could be B&Q / Wickes own brand, or Direct power / Titan / challenge / Performance power / Erbauer / Skill and so on .... with Bosch Green / B&D being the top level I suppose. I know most trades will avoid these makes, but there is a big market in these low quality tools so guidance is very beneficial to the novices and some are actually decent for the price

I have seen few Wickes own brand stuff and it doesn’t look too bad but hard to know if any good

Any thoughts?

I can't make a category for every brand of power tool out there and so if there is not a dedicated sub category the review can just be placed in the power tool reviews forum

I promise that nobody will laugh at what you have bought

I for one support this.

UHM, Please consider a 'budget power tool review' section, which is what I think John meant.

As a tradesman who does everything from groundworks to plastering to roofing to tiling I often find myself needing something that I only expect to use once every two years, so this would be a good forum for me too.

What constitutes a budget power tool - is it one that doesn't have a fashionable name ? Dewalt, Makita Bosch (blue only  ) etc

I wouldn't class Ryobi as a 'pro' tool but that is on the list.

Perhaps add a couple more, B&D, own brand (are wickes made by Makita  )

Yeah thats what I meant, "a budget tool section". Not sure where there limit is. I'd say Bosch green or Roybi be outside it, dunno really.

Perhaps it should be aimed at tools that the user expects to be binned in max 2 years or say up to 30% of the price of a makita?

Tools can be loosely classified into 3 sections
Budget: shed own brands
DIY: bosch green / Royobi /
Pro: Makita, Dewalt, Bosch Blue, Mafell
(is that sensible?)

I was thinking about the 'budget' section

The reviews will all start with " I have this 'mate' who bought a ...."

i think 5 catagories when suggesting a tools all round use
1] light diy
2]medium diy
3]full diy light trade
4] medium trade
5]full trade

then you can say ryobi between 3 and 4
bosch green 4
b&d 3

although individual tools may be put into any catagory as the average would still be the same

any other thoughts
