hi,
I've installed a couple of interconnectable smoke alarms and run some 3 core T&E in surface mounted trunking between the junction boxes at either end (alarms have own connection with wires to connect to JB).
My question is, should i be connecting the earth wire from the lighting circuit to the JB's even though this won't be connected to the smoke alarms?
Thanks

i don't understand what you mean about them having JB's? do you mean the connector blocks inside them?
the wiring should be as follows:-
CU-it's own MCB
wire to 1st smoke with 1.00mm/1.5mm T&E
wire from 1st smoke to 2nd smoke with 3-core & earth
earth wires, connect at source (CU) join together at 1st smoke and sleeve at both smokes.
they won't be used but will be made an earth for "spare cores" reasons. |

they have a push in plastic connection which has 3 wires trailing outside them to be connected to the mains/interconnect.
I'm also putting them as part of the upstairs lighting circuit which i thought i'd read was acceptable??
Thanks |

ahh, thats why i didn't understand, you are missing the back plate.
smoke alarms should actually meant to be on their own circuit but they will work either way. |
