|
|
|
Hello
We're removing the boxing in around a plasic soil pipe in a downstairs bathroom and found that the box has been nailed to the soil pipe. The nail is very close to the celing so I would have to take down my celing to replace a section of pipe.
Its only a very thin nail and it doesnt seem to be leaking - I was hoping to pull it out and patch it with something.
Can anbody give me some advice on how to make a permenant repair?
Thanks!

If you have a piece of soil pipe lying around, cut a small piece, about 50mm round, clean it and the pipe and solvent weld the two together. _________________ Scruff |

Yes it's called solvent weld, you will only need a small pot.
PUt plenty on both surfaces, and hold it on for a couple of minutes _________________ Scruff |

Could you not use a gap filling cement instead of solvent welding a new piece of soil?
You can get it off Trading Depot but it also comes in grey so best to check in a plumbers merchants instead of buying online. I know City plumbing carry it.
I tried adding the url to this post but it won't display any of the text |

Interesting post Enliven don't know whats gone wrong but you can't see it
Yes, you could build a patch with gap cement, the pipe would need to be clean and dry.
Edit, your post is visible now _________________ Scruff |

Thanks Guys
I ended up buying some solvent cement and making a patch from a cheap piece of soil pipe from B&Q.
Its holding well so far, thanks so much for your help!
