| Whirlpool AWM323 washing machine has water in it after being left alone and unplugged. I drain water and it washes fine but water returns when left. Thanks |

Most common problem is the waste not being connected according to good practice.
More info and perhaps a photo _________________ Scruff |

| Thanks. I have no photos as reporting on details given to me by parents and haven't checked connections but know that water fills machine to above bottom of drum and is not always clean. |

Yep, expect they have connected it to the outlet on the sink trap, instead of using a proper washing machine trap with an air gap.
Loop the hose up as high as it will go in the cupboard and try, you may have to tape it in place. _________________ Scruff |

There are two possible causes-
Firstly like the scruff says it could be dirty water that is running back into the machine.
Secondly it could be the water inlet valve/valves.
To eliminate the valves isolate each valve for a period of time and see if it continues to fill. By isolating the hot and cold independantly you will know which one is passing and then it can be replaced or checked to see if there is any debris stuck in the valve.
Here is how to change one-
