I Have a friend that has Tiscali broadband problems.

I'm also with tiscali, but I get 5 meg download and 256k upload.

My friend gets 83Kpbs download and 248Kpbs upload scratch

He does not live as close to the exchange as I do and he said lots of people near him struggle getting fast speeds.

I'm off to his house when I get chance to uninstall and re-install his set up, before he contacts Tiscali as they have told him to do this.

I think Tiscali are posturing and there is nothing wrong with his end, I find it really odd that he can upload faster than he can download and so I thought i'd see if anyone had any views on this?

Hello,

I'm not with Tiscali ( was once ) and I had problems with speed, I live 7KM from the exchange and at one stage was only getting download speeds of 400kps. I kept ringing up my IPS helpline which was worse than useless but eventually got transferred to their tech guys who said they would try to fiddle around with my settings, as a result I started getting speeds of about 800. I then moved my modem down next to the telephone inbox , bought myself a longer Ethernet Cable and immediately got the speed up to 1600+ which for my distance from the exchange is quite good. Try having a look at the Talk Talk members forum, you get some good ideas there.
