Following on from this thread:-
http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/forum1/glue-free-laminate-flooring-need-help-t12644.html
This was the layout of my dining room, hallway, and lounge:-
Initially I wanted the direction of the length of the planks to run away from the windows throughout the house, however the house is not exactly square so when running the wood into the next room it was not straight.
So I then decided to split the area into 3 and use door strip between the rooms.
This would have looked not too good in my opinion, so I decided to fit the floor in all rooms in one piece, so had to fit the planks horizontal to the windows, not ideal but it has worked out well.
The floor is real wood effect from Floors 2 Go, the underlay is 6mm foam from B&Q, and just std 2mm damp proof.
It took me and my other half all weekend to fit, but is worth it!
Please not the uneven floors!

Very nice job Chris,
Carrying the floor through the rooms without a threshold bar finishes it off very well _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"

Thanks guys, I could have done things better thinking in hindsight but this was my first time! ha ha!
On a side note - the surround sound sounds amazing with hard flooring down! |

Hi,
I tried to do something similar with my laminate flooring between lounge, diningroom, sittingroom and hall but I had trouble with the planks lifting in one doorway because of expansion of the floor after I had layed it. So I had to put a door strip and leave an expansion gap under it.
It could be that I didn't leave enough of a gap around the floor in the first place or because it is an MDF laminate not solid wood?
Any way, I can realy appreciate your neat looking job and how tricky it is to get the planks to fit close to the edges, Great job well done!,
All the best, Andy |

I know what you mean Andy, so far no lifting! - I left a nice gap around the flooring, and filled it with caulk.
I was dead struck on doing it in sections but when it came down to it I thought bugger it and went for broke. Luckily the starting wall that was attached to the bay in the lounge was level with the ending wall in the dining room, so the planks look level throughout.
Cheers
Chris! |
