Our laptop is driving us nuts. We don't want to use the wifi connection and have removed the drivers but it still comes on . How can it be disabled, so that it doesn't light up and slow everything up looking for a connection?

Mod1,

My oh has just had a go and apparently it wasn't connected to network in the first place. Any more suggestions? scratch We tend to use it in the living room and plug the ethernet cable in.

If its on constantly then there should be a physical switch around the side of the lappy. A method to switch on for lappy's that don't have a switch is using the Fn keys.

Make and Model ?

The oh just plugs in the ethernet cable if he uses broadband, as it gets used in the same room as the hub.

I use it offline mostly at school. It gets used to battle nations, my oh and daughters play Age of Empires on it.

The IBM Thinkpads use Fn-F5 to toggle the Wi-Fi State, so if on, Fn-F5 turns it off, and of on, Fn-F5 turns it on.

As Skiking and UHM said, some laptops have a physical switch - the HP we have does and the Sony VAIOs do (they both drive me mad as Mrs H uses the HP and knocks the switch ....."Hoovie, the network isn't working Crying ".
Sister Hoovie has a VAIO and knocks that - calls me up ..."Brother Hoovie....." Rolling Eyes

Just checked Mrs Hoovies Dell laptop and that has a very positive physical switch on the side to turn wi-fi on and off, which is not one that can be knocked that accidentally.

Apparently, our laptop keeps picking up neighbours' wifi connections and it gets interrupted, he got fed up with it. Could he get round that one?
