Yes Susannah, it be interesting to see what advice he takes, if any, and its always a pleasure to see pictures of the finished projects. Talking of which do you have any you would like to post in the showcase gallery?

Hi everyone, crikey I didnt mean to start a PVA war lol, I am the first one to shout down anyone who uses it over bare plaster, but like I mentioned previously have been known to use it in situations like I mentioned. Wink

Sorry Tel, but I dont get what you mean by filler dying after painting. scratch

I normally use tetrion filler, never use polyfiller etc, I buy in sacks, so it works out cheaper, I have always used it, even when I used to work for the firms.

This will seal your filler, as you will probabaly have to fill on top of the filler you have just filled, (know what I mean) lol, if you are going to put on filler on top of filler, then it needs to be protected, cause as soon as you roll, it will lift the filler onto your roller, or crumble and crack, you can seal it with oilbase UC, but I find the diluted PVA works better for me, and dries so quickly.

I was referring to this part Bobbie

Its no war at all just a difference of opinions and making sure that people are given all the information so they can make an informed decision.

No argument here, just opinions and explanation Rich.

I've always respected the work that bobbie has posted about.

It's clear it works for bobbie. But the PVA has caused some issues for people so my advice is the same as the advice I've been given by tilers and decs. Not to PVA under paint or tiles (unless the manufacturer recommends it). Wink

Anyone used Dulux acrylic PVA. I see that it ticks a few boxes.

Hello to Bobbie-Dazzler, Tim'll, Telmay, Susannah1, Jaeger S2K et al.
This is the first time I've done any painting, but I knew from reading and research that even a mention of PVA and paint in the same sentence would raise eyebrows Boxing Smile.

I was unsure whether to use PVA or Zinsser Shiledz or nowt - in the end I just used the Crown white emulsion without PVA or Zinsser. I've attached a picture of one of the walls. Having looked at the preview picture, it doesn't really paint a picture of how it is. I've given the room a lot of TLC on the prep work, and it turned out better than I expected.

Sadly, it took 5 coats. Crikey. Maybe my paint or application wasn't up to scratch. The prep work resembled Bobbie-D's picture - though I didn't take a picture. I didn't doubt at all that the prep would be hard work and time consuming. I'm going to do the whole house this way. I'm very happy with the results so far and the minimal expense. On the down side, it's a long drawn out and messy process Shocked.

I was looking to put the Magnolia on today, but I'm ready for a break after all that sanding and filling! I now know why pro P&Ds can suffer stiffness and seriously bad backs. It must be awful at times. For now, I'll settle for a relaxing couple of hours or so watching "come dine with me". Ahhh, Sunday afternoon bliss! Must be getting old - well, er, 37!

I'd like to thank Bobbie- Dazzler in particular for taking the time to post up the pictures and how-to. That picture definitely inspired! Ta.

It's refreshing to come on a forum and see a topic discussed that, frankly, elsewhere might have degenerated into personal insults and what not. Nice and knowledgeable bunch on here

LB.
