Wallpapering this week and client had got the paste - Solvite so I thought no probs there.
Did the usual, stir for 30 seconds, leave for 3 minutes (enough time for a quick fag) stir and away you go - But when I got back to it all the paste had clumped at the bottom of the bucket - my arm was dropping off my the time I had managed to whip it into shape.
What I hadn't noticed was that it was "New & Improved" "mixes in 20 seconds" so its mix for 20 seconds, leave for 90 seconds stir and its ready. After 7 hours of papering (it was a & fiddly job) the mix wasn't sticking anywhere as well as it had first thing and the following morning I had to bin the remainder it as it had gone watery.
I don't know about anyone else, but normally paste is good for at least 48 hours. Why all the hassle to save 1 minute 40 seconds?
Theres more, but I'll put that in another post |

I have had some problems with solivite recently...the trainees were mixing them as per normal..i.e 7 litres of water per bag..but the paste was like frog spawn!..
It was if it hadnt dispersed properly and seem to form tiny globules..
Sent it back to solvite who were really helpful..they checked the batch numbers..we had had the stuff about a year, stored in a normal environment..when they checked the batch numbers they found it was over two years old..but this shouldnt have mattered anyway.
They replaced the lot no questions asked...but couldnt find the cause of the problem.
I worry about these instant mix pastes...they dont 'mix' in 20 seconds at all..they disperse, but you still have to keep stirring cos the settle on the bottom
The other problem is the quicker they disperse the less time you have to mix...and ive noticed now that its easy to get lumps in the paste (apple doughnut filling!!) if your not careful...and I never used to have a problem wth that (unless I was using mangers sh*t!!) _________________ '''No one likes us...we dont care!''' |

| What is your preferred paste? I've always liked Solvite, but a bit wary now, been using quite a bit of "Mangers sh*te!!" recently (special offer) without any real problems. Not wild about ready-mix purely becuse of size and weight and limited transport space. |

I only ever use Lap,solvite or polycell..funny thing is, apparently theres only one company in the worls that actually make the flakes..I spose they have different formulations for different manufacturers.
Lap..albeit a pain in the arse to mix has really good adhesion.
Wickes ready mixed is good stuff and good value too _________________ '''No one likes us...we dont care!''' |

You can always whack a drop of pva in with the solvite or polyceill of added stickability. _________________ '''No one likes us...we dont care!''' |
