Clearing a few bits in the front garden on Monday and came across this little fella.

Anyone know what he is? I believe snakes are actually very common in the UK but never seen one myself here in the wild before.

size wise, very small - not much thicker then a fat earthworm; very nice golden colour and got a thick 'cap' on his tail.

Its a slow worm. Actually its a lizard by definition but the legs have ceased to grow through evolution. They like warm places. I had a seething mass of them under some hay bales that were covered by a tarpaulin. when I pulled it back it was just like an Indiana Jones film Arggggggggghhh. They are still there probably as I abandoned the hay Laughing

Wimp!!

I show the wife and she sort of stepped back :D then again, we did watch "snakes on a plane" last week Laughing Laughing

so it is actually a legless lizard then. I see they eat slugs ... There was a monster slug a few inches from him so he will have dinner sorted for the next week of so Thumbright
