As I've found a few worm holes in timber in my bathroom ceiling joists, I need to treat it all. Where can I buy the borate treatments that are available in North America, which are lethal to invertebrates, but harmless to humans and cats, and the environment. _________________ I started out with nothing, I still have most of it. |

you will need to treat/destroy any bits of furniture and other wooden bits and pieces up there as well I guess?
I have (had!) woodworm in my whole loft and in the garage as well - I expect the previous house owners maybe moved things from one place to another and moved the worm with it _________________ If you have a son, DO NOT name him after a verb ....

The question when you see exit holes in timber is this, how long ago did the insects leave, and are there any more grubs still within. The timber concerned is around 50 years old, and installed when building regs were simpler and standards much lower. The joists are all over long and one actually touched the outer leaf. Hopefully, now the roof is drier, and I'll investigate the website linked to above. _________________ I started out with nothing, I still have most of it. |

I've just ordered some Ultra 12 from: http://www.woodworm-info.co.uk/boron.htm Ultra Safe Boron Based Treatments for Woodworm & Rot
Much more pleasant to use indoors than the Cuprinol, and better for the environment. _________________ I started out with nothing, I still have most of it. |

I was under the impression that woodworm did not attack MDF, but they do. I put a couple of off-cuts in my bathroom loft as walkways over joists only a few years ago, there are telltale holes in one of them. _________________ I started out with nothing, I still have most of it. |
