My friend has just taken a light down from the kitchen and forgot what goes where.
There are 4 2-core plus earth coming from the ceiling.
One of them is for upstairs, one for downstairs, one is the live from the mains and the other seems to be the switch for the kitchen light.
I have the plastic chocolate block with 4 holes. How would i connect all these up for it to work, including the live and neutral from the new light for the litchen?

Cheers

Well if you know which cable is which it is straightforward.

1. Disconnect power (no naughty stuff don't want anyone getting a belt).

2. Cable from Supply Live to terminal pin 1.

3. Cable from Supply Neutral to terminal pin 2.

4. Cable from Supply Earth (cpc) to terminal pin 3.

5. The cable that goes upstairs connect to pins 1, 2 and 3 (same Live, Neutral and cpc).

6. Cable for downstairs connect to same pins 1, 2 and 3 (same live, neutral and cpc).

7. Cable (red or brown) that goes to light switch Live (Common or COM of light switch) goes to terminal pin 1.

8. Cable that goes to light switch (black or blue) is NOT a neutral (!) take to terminal pin 4. To be accurate this wire should be marked red or brown).

9. Connect kitchen light fitting (lamp) live to terminal pin 4, neutral to terminal pin 2 and earth (cpc) to terminal pin 3
