I would like to fot some 2' trellis on top of a 6' brick wall.
I was considering using some 3' posts bolted to the rear of the wall and attaching the trellis to the posts.
Anyone have any other suggestions please?
thanks |

Hi rich.t.
Where I live, you are only allowed to put up walls/ fences and trellis up to 2 metres (6' 6") high , above that and you need planning permission. It may be different in your area but it's worth taking into account if you have nit picking neighbours like mine. My neighbours have done exactly what you suggested and screwed trellis to posts that have been bolted to walls at regular intervals. _________________ Never be afraid to ask, that's how we learn. |

Don't know if it is the best way, but that is exactly what I did last year and the trellis is still up
Bludall is quite right about the regs. If you and your neighbour are in agreement about this, then go ahead, but they have the right to complain it they want. _________________ If you have a son, DO NOT name him after a verb ....

I might be wrong but if it is just trellis I don't think it counts as part of te total height.

Going by the anoraks at gardenlaw.com, if it is attached to the fence/wall then it is.
There is this added complication also about where you measure the height from if one side is higher then another. e.g. In my case, the wall I added trellis to is now - with Trellis - about 7 foot high on my side and about 4 foot on neighbours, so I don't know if it is higher then permissible or not. _________________ If you have a son, DO NOT name him after a verb ....
