start with using a spot board, this needs to over hang whatever you have it resting on as your hawk needs to go under the edge,
if the board absorbs water, wet it up first, tip your plaster onto this and wash your bucket and mixing tools.
Laying on first coat, if you're stood on a hop up lay on across the ceiling then from about half wall height up.
Bottom half, pulling up a trowel full of plaster you should run out as you cross over the top half spreading the joint out,
laying on done, cut and clean out the internals ceiling as well, wash them in with a small water brush, 3 inch is good for this,
any heavy laying on lines run over with a light trowel.
Clean mixing tools, lay on top coat in same order.
First trowel, working left to right, clean left internal top to bottom, do the ceiling line as far as you can comfortably reach,
top corner turn the heel of your trowel up to the ceiling placing it lightly in the corner and draw it across the ceiling line
tilting the leading edge down off the ceiling a little, 5mm or so, this will stop it juddering,
now using the heel of your trowel pull up the left internal from about half way until you pass shoulder height, now pull the same stroke
down from the ceiling crossing were you finished pulling up.
Second and repeated strokes across the wall you need to lap the preceding by a quarter trowel and the angle of the trowel is shallow
almost flat. Still half down the wall,
start were you did for the internal stroke but with toe of the trowel pointing down wards as you place it on the wall,
as you start to pull up twist the trowel to horizontal, as you reach the line were you troweled across the ceiling twist the trowel
so the toe is pointing up and draw the trowel off to your right, work like this until you move your hop up,
clean ceiling line and trowel across using the heel, repeat as above,
right top corner do as left but it is the last stroke using the heel but pull down lower.
Bottom left, clean, heel, first and repeated strokes are the same the toe points down below the skirting line and twist as you come up,
as you come up pull right through where you started the top half and twist the toe up finish just over head height coming off the wall to
your right,
this levels your laying on joints and fill were you placed your trowel when you done the top half.
Right bottom, heel to internal pull up past were you finished pulling down by a foot or so,
using the heel in internals will keep your wall flat and reduce the dip you'll get just by pulling out.
Second time over,
use the heel like the first time but now go back into top left with toe up pull out from the internal into the wall by a foot or so,
the from the ceiling line pull down until you cross were you finished pulling up as you cross twist the trowel so the toe points down,
the stoke is like a back to front j but no up wards curl, top right finish by pulling from internal into the wall a foot or so,
you clean internals as you finish what you have just troweled, small brush.
The bottom now ¾ wall is troweled as before but you pull the internals in first left, last right,
don't try or worry about flattening trowel lines first time over as these will diminished with each time you go over the walls,
don't pull across the walls or start here, there, or any where you see a mark or you'll end up with walls that look like a demented
chicking has been scrapping on them with dips where you placed the trowel,
if you need to use water while troweling and bring up fat wash this off your trowel don't spread or fill marks with it, it pays to keep
alittle bit left on the edge of your spot board which when you've done laying on you scrape clean and wash over with your big wet brush.
when do you start troweling ? straight after you have clean your spot. |
