Does anyone have any of these Black and Decker NiCad batteries they don't need?

I have a pair of these batteries, but they have both failed, probably due to the inept way the charger works. It consists of a mains transformer and a 1A silicon diode to feed each 3.6 volt battery. The batteries are available new, but are extortionately priced. A "racing pack" as used by modellers, should be adaptable to give the tools a further lease of life.

A welding set connected to a 1200mA NiCad! Sounds very risky to me.

As the cells are built into a steel tube, it would be difficult to reload with new cells. I have replaced the 6 cells in my BD602 drill, though the tags fall off far too easily.
