i have only tried Linux for the last six months (did try it years ago) but I'm on a 2.9Ghz P4 with a dodgy memory slot (SIMMs, DIMs or whatever they are now) I fluctuate between 800MB and 400MB RAM - need to upgrade!)

here is the connection information

Picture removed. . . mod5 obliges!

woah take that down.... you dont want that up here,

looks like ubuntu hasnt found all the info on your network card and has installed the tulip driver just to enable connectivity.
may work better with a new network card in there with proper drivers but then (may not as well).

Don't like that BT Speed Checker it's crap.

It wasnt on the BT speed checker it was via the hub settings. I know my PC is pretty old (don't scoff Scruff with your new fangled one) but surfng the net is hardly a processor hungry process and I cant see how it would reduce the speed between the hub and the PC (about 1 metre)

I know :)
I'm just saying it's crap, same as BT most of the time.

Same, and even if it did effect it I don't think it would a crap speed like it is.
I think it may be a stuck profile or bad line noise.

You're not on cable are you?

You should report that post with that picture you want deleted, it will get the mods to see it quicker.

the bloke on the BT forum is a bit annoying already mainly because of his sig - "f you want to say thanks for a helpful answer, please click on the Ratings star on the left-hand side If the the reply answers your question then please mark as ’Mark as Accepted Solution’"

Stop rubbing it in

Cheers Mod 5 - as soon as I put the pic up with my IP address a screen popped up with loads of scrolling numbers and a woman knocked on my door with a white rabbit tattooed on her shoulder

In Hull we have no option other than Kingston Communications (Karoo) for broadband. It's a throw-back from years ago when the council operated their own independent telephone exchange. It was floated on the stock market more than ten years ago and now trades as KCOM. Our phone boxes are cream too

KCOM home-page boasts as being the fastest in the country but in comparison to some of yours that clearly isn't true. To home-page: http://bit.ly/oYwOS
