I dont have a specific drawing for your porch as I do not know what you want.

What do you need to know?

The wall plate you have (the 4"x2") may want to be lifted up slightly so the rafter when fixed is 10mm or so above the block work. The wall plate should be bedded on level with cement.

Fix the 6" x 1" bearer to the wall. Make sure this is level.

Then cut your rafter with the plumb cut at the top, the birds mouth but leave the bottom of the rafter longer (this will be cut back when the rafter is fixed). Once you are happy with your rafter use this as a template for the others. You will probably only have about 6 rafters in total.

Now all the rafters are fitted cut back the rafters for your eaves. Try to match the main roof depth for your soffit.

Post up the pictures of your progress Thumbright

You could raise the wall plate by bedding it on with cement.
This may only need doing if your using more than 4x2 for rafters

have managed to start rafters for roof during short break in rain.
I am thinking I will need rafters at outside walls. Plan to place rafter on wall plate and bolt to out side wall. does this sound right?

Looking good Thumbright

How are the finishing the verges with barge board or rendering up to the undercloaking?

I would not put a rafter on the outside wall just cut a short length with the birds mouth on then set inside the first block. You will then be able to finish the corner with a block cut down for rendering. Fix 2 noggins across to support the rafter, fix the top noggin as high up as you can probably on top of wall pate so only 2" high or so.

Measure out from the block work to the end of the rafter to mark your soffit depth say 200mm. Remeber the render will add 25mm.
Mark the end rafters and draw plumb lines then string line across on top of the rafters. Draw you plumb line down from the marks on the rest of your rafters. Take care when cutting back the rafters as this can go wibbly wobbly when the fascia is fitted. Fix some brackets to hold the soffit in place use plywood or 4x1

Not really sure what you mean, could really do with a drawing of what you suggest. Instead of putting rafter on outside wall
I really am playing this 1 by ear.
Thanks for your help so far

Where you have cut your blocks at an angle you should put undercloak strips on which overlap the blocks by an inch or so. You then cement up the gap between the strip and the tiles.

Hope these foto's help explain things

Go to your local builders or roofers merchant and ask for undercloak - they'll know what you want - its like an asbestos strip, but not scratch . I think they come in 1.2mtr strips and double brick width.

The felt is Tyvek Supra (i think). Comes in huge rolls and is not cheap. If your in the Cheshire area you could have the rest of mine in exchage for some beer tokens Thumbright
