Just a question: Is plumber's mait the same as boss white, because I have been told to use plumber's mait but I already have boss white.

Nope they are not the same, Plumbers Mait is a non setting putty normally used for seting basin wastes in
boss white is a jointing compound for threaded unions.

I see, it's just that some people are using plumber's mate to seal between a ceramic hob and the work surface so I thought one might as be as good as the other.
Somebody checked the heat resistance of plumber's mait for use with a hob. I guess both plumber's mait and boss white must have good heat resistance being used near boilers

Wouldn't be my choice of material for sealing a hob :shock:
