Okay - 1 year after she broached it I "might" update the kitchen. I know that this is making a hasty decision, but to tell the truth even I realise that a 1980's kitchen has had its day. There is no way it will be a completely new one - the oak cupboards will paint - the painters and decorators in their forum have explained how, but what I need is some fresh ideas on the "plinth", because that is past recovery. I know that a basic wood one can go in - and then paint that, but has anyone tried having a "contrasting" plinth - to match the work surface or a metal plinth in stainless steel? Light coloured plinths get so dirty and scuffed.

Many thanks - really like the black plinths - could insert some lights in there.
