I have a flat which is painted in Magnolia. I am sure it is magnolia silk. I have tried painting a hole incorrectly drilled with magnolia silk, but the colour for some reason does match. What am I doing wrong? Funny thing is, a small bit of the kitchen and bit of the bathroom I painted with the same paint matches the paint on the wall, but for some reason, area in the pic doesn't seem to work?

Here is the offending pic in question:

Any help from painters would be appreciated as I'm confused?

Firstly
:welcomeuhm:
Secondly...not all Magnolia's are the same..some are quite Pink/some tend towards brown...

thirdly...you seem to have a texture on the main wall, but not on the patch...

Cheers, wine.

Never realised there were many variation of magnolia. This is a council flat, so have no idea what they used. I just assumed the texture was from the roller used to paint the room. What are my chances of finding the correct colour to match? I just used a small handbrush to paint the patch on the living room wall.

Fairly slim...each manufacturer has their own trade and retail version...then as emulsion ages subtle changes occur in the coloration (Sunlight will lighten a paint colour over time)

To match the texture, you'll need a long-pile roller...

damn it! alternative is to paint that part of the wall a different colour. So annoying. Even if a used a roller, not sure if it will even work.

At the risk of sounding flippant, but if that patch is the only offending area, why not simply move that mirror over it?

As wine~o says, getting an exact match is nearly impossible, and even different batches of the same manufacturers colour can have minor shade variations. Why not pick a contrasting colour and make a feature wall out of it. Get away from the yellow colour altogether.

I think the apparent yellow is a photo taken under artificial light...though I could be wrong...

I cant move the photos as they are all centred etc. will go with painting that part of the wall, but not sure what colours compliment magnolia.

Like the photos :thumbright:

Have a look here for some ideas. It's difficult to advise people on colours as it depends on furnishings/personal taste/light conditions etc

Thanks. The I rather like Italian movie posters, hence the choice.

The wall isn't woodchip. The pic is poor. I think I might settle for a red or something. It's only one part of the wall, so shouldn't take a painter too long. I'm not gonna attempt it. Useless as these things.
