I have a kitchen back door with two side windows either side. They came with the connecting bars, but since having the inside plastered i have noticed the plaster cracking on the lower half of both sides of the frame. Obviously this is where there is movement.

The outside is brick then it goes to block and this is set back to allow for render. There are 2 screws in each side on the bottom half of the door.

Outside is not rendered yet so should i add more screws (on the bottom halves)???

There is some foam in there against the recessed blocks but should i try and get some in against the bricks also?

are you saying its rendered up to the plastic!!!

if so you ideally need a molding similar to a architrave to take up movement and cover the surface to hide movement

just given it another shake down, there is movement at just below window sill height. Having looked at the positions of the other two screws which are much lower i think it needs one either side as high as possible to stop it moving.

Then i can try some moulding on the inside if it still cracks.

If you add another screw you will need to slide a packer in between the frame and the wall where you positon any new screw.

If not the plastic door outer frame will be distorted.

Inserting the packer / packers is not a problem but you will obviously need to cut the plaster away at that point to gain access to the gap between the frame and the wall

You could add another couple of fixings but you will not eradicate all the movement and vibration from the door, as Big-all has stated you should really silicone a moulding around the door internally to bridge the movement cracks

I have fitted two more screws either side and bought some packers to make it a tight fit. Also got some foam to put above and below packers to fill the voids.

I have caulked this and your right, its better but there is a little movement.

I am intending to paint this shortly, so can i stick this moulding on after??? I won't be slamming the door in between.

Also on the side the hinges are, there isn't a lot of clearance between them and the side, about 10-15mm max, what sort of moulding are you thinking of???
