Hello I am new to the forum and I'd appreciate some advice.
I am looking to repair a few cracks and general old post work blemishes on the outside of my bungalow. It is the cement part below the marble chippings (im not sure what its called). Its the section that runs all round the outside of the base. About 2ft in height.
Well I was advised I should get some plaster and skim over it. I have done this on one section but with about 3 coats of plaster. So it's nice and smooth now (not so much of a skim as a proper job). I have since painted it with Sandtex masonary paint.
However, the problem is this......with all the torrential rain we've had in the last lot of weeks the paint is blistering off the wall !
Can plaster not be used outdoors? Or can it be used but it just needs to be sealed in some way? Can Sandtex not be used on plaster? Somethings badly wrong and Im not sure what.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

HI FU and
I am no expert but have a good friend of over 25 yrs who is a plasterer and as far as I know he has never used plaster externally!
Render would be my choice with a plasticiser and/or waterproofer in it.

finishing plaster is no good outside it sucks up any moister going and if you hadn't painted it you would probably have found it had wash off.
if you had only a few holes and cracks then you would be better to use something like tetrion masonry filler or something like it. |
