hi all, i know the main rule is not to plaster over wallpaper, BUT, we have bought a house which we are renovating. we removed all the woodchip paper and then another layer of paper which was underneath. We got to what we thought was the bottom but then a scraped the wall with a chisel and it looks like another layer of paper. this paper is so so so thin and DOES NOT come of, i have been literally having to scraper the plaster away from the walls. We have tried hot water, steamers etc etc and it aint shifting, If i key the walls with a stanley knife do you think that the plaster may be suitable to use?? or what is this paper removal mixture thats knocking about, does it work?
i know you may say dont be lazy but this paper does not come off.
any tips or hints will be great and be much needed. Downstairs i just took everything back to brickwork but dont want the cost of doing this upstairs. on some of the walls its in patches where it looks like someone tried taking it off. its the original wallpaper from 1930's or so. if it aint moved up to now will it ever move? should i test a wall first.
Thanks all and hope i get some tips cos its driving us nuts.

youre gonna love this one....
can you plaster?
if so, are you gonna do the plastering?
if so, how much is a bag of plaster?

method...
key up the paper....
spread a coat of skim over it, lay it down...
if it starts to bubble up after half and hour or so, get on it with the scraper and have the lot off.... use a 4" heavy duty jobby from screwfix, not one of these flexible filling knife jobs..

:thumbright:

if not, lay it down again and wait a few days... then if its all good, pva it and skim it proper..

sounds mad dunnit? ive had allsorts of silly things happen with plaster and its one of, if not THE best thing for getting stuff off walls....

yeah i will be plastering, dont worry i do plastering quite alot, only internal.
i will give that a try, its gonna take days to remove it, thats even if it will come off
was gonna give it a few coats of pva too.
think it should be ok as it seems part of the plaster now. its only in one room of the upstairs, which is not the master bedroom so not end of the world if it doesnt take as it can just be papered bu :thumbleft: t i would prefer a fully plastered house
thanks for the tips tho, i will get my stanley knife on it and then plenty of pva and then try plastering it.
i thought it may be ok but always glad to hear a second opinion
