Hi,

Maybe a daft question but hey :-) Which is best metal or plastic?

I am guessing metal as easier to slide off the plaster and easier to clean :dunno:

Cheers

Personal preference. I learnt with a plastic one, then moved onto a stainless marshalton one.

I use a preworn steel one myself but I've never tried a plastic one (never felt the need to) so I can't comment.

Metal.

As part of my City and Guilds in carpentry and joinery, I had to make a hawk from scratch using sawn softwood and sawn hardwood. All work including planing timber all round had to be done entirely by hand, winding sticks and eye. Far too complex to bother mere plasterers with the details though lol.

Never used it anyway, it was too small.

I use both and it seems to make no difference. The only things that might make a difference between one hawk and another is the handle/grip.

I have always used either a wooden one hand made with a spade handle attached to hold lol (in my younger days) then i bought a metal one and had it thrown at me by my boss because he couldnt stand the noise of the steel on steel he he . Now use a poly float but they are a pig to keep clean but will last you a good while and only about a tenna to buy.
