Im tiling a bathroom but after taking tiles off that were half up the wall, the plaster is coming off back to the brick. Should I use sand/cement render or is there another base coat i could use, dont want to use bonding.

thanks

Are you putting tiles back on the wall, if so what type, and size, this could influence what you do to the wall

The tiles are ceramic, that are going back on 12 x 8 roughly

OK so you need to know the weight of the tiles per sq Mtr, Plaster skim will take 20Kg/SqMtr including adhesive and grout which weighs in at approx 4Kg/SqMtr, if your tiles fall into this no problem, if not, you may be better dot & dabbing plasterboard, and mechanically fixing through the dabs, this will allow up to 32Kg/SqMtr, and you can skim any bits that are to be painted and tile onto the bare board.

For that size tile i would say its right on the edge regarding tubbed adhesive, personally i would use a powdered cement based adhesive.

Hope that helps.
