I am planning to make a timber wall and plasterboard to span the gaps and make a recess for the TV and the shelving also was thinking it would be a good idea to use foil lining inside the radiator cover and a slight slope on top of the radiator to bounce heat into the room instead of upwards.

Seeing as this is going to be surrounding a radiator would it be wise of me to use fireboard? (as I plan to)
and can anyone see any potential issues with this idea?

still not a good idea as heat will still be transferred to the tv

a 4 to 5" shelve about 3" above the radiator will deflect heat better
when i make radiator covers i turn the thermostats on the radiators up by around 5 degrees if internally fitted as the covers although 80% open still trap air

See this quite a bit on the AV websites....they usually make a "floating wall". It's a frame attached to the wall, which allows them to make compartments to recess the TV / Radiator / equipment into boxes made. The radiator one could be included int it's own sealed box, so the heat can only come out.......

Sorry I can't draw it, I'm pants at paint....

this was kind of the idea but i too am pants at paint,

i was going to make a wooden box completely surrounding the radiator and put one of those latticed mdf covers on the front and use radiator foil http://www.screwfix.com/product/jsp/zoo ... pany=ae235 inside the radiator cabinet. and then surround with the fireboard to make it all look like part of the same wall.

my hand drawings are so much better that the ones on paint.net

If you don't want to heat the room why not just take the rad out.

You need air circulation.

its not that simple
hottest place in the room around the radiator next hottest place air comming off the front off the radiator
and what does hot air do ???
so you there for have a wall off warm air going out and up making the area around the telly the hottest area in the room

you then have the tv working several degrees warmer than needed

2 inch kingspan above, behind and to the sides of the radiator to create an insulated box so that the heat comes out at the front. If the piece above is sloped, this will help the convection, as will vents below to allow air in at the base.

I would just move the radiator.

got no where to move the radiator to... although when it comes to it my wife might make me go for underfloor heating which will make all my planning pointless...

Mmmmm underfloor heating. That's the biggest thing I miss from my old house......no rads on the wall, beautiful warm floors, even temps around the whole of the room....plus, the rabbits loved it! :)

Do it......you know you want to!
