Which is the normal order to do this?
Got lath and plaster wall that has the plaster loosened off the walls in many places and the previous owners had hardboard screwed on to keep the plaster from falling off
Same situation with lath and plaster ceiling above it - hardboard screwed into 'something' - the hardboard is now bowed so total bodgeup!
(they also used hardboard as a partition wall onto studwork and tiled over !) - hardboard, the new wonder building material
So getting rid of loose plaster from both and put up 'board - given I will be tiling upto ceiling (so don't need to skim plasterboard at all I presume?) but will need to have ceiling board skimmed for paint, which do I put up first? - hoping to do this in next 2 hours so any quick ideas appreciated

I would patch up the ceiling with plasterboard, bring out flush using bonding them skim the whole ceiling. The wall i would patch in the same, plasterboard. If you dont wont to skim it i would pack out the p/b so it sits flush to the rest of the wall then tile.
Ideally i would overboard the whole ceiling and skim it |

Thanks for reply, Andy.
I will be getting a landing and hall skimmed (maybe overboarded first) to eliminate artex - prob get plasterer to do bathroom ceiling (room in question) at same time.
good plan with the packing on wall - would you take off the laths entirely first in that area? or just board over them? _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"

cheers for that  Just packed up for day after putting up the piece of ceiling 'board and washing out the bath to make it look better (the wife doesn't get it that sometimes to make things better, they look worse for a while )
The real bad news of the day is - no beer in the house!! _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
