I'm redoing a bedroom ceiling with board and then a finishe plaster skim. I've used handy board, (as it's easier to get up on a 8 foot high ceiling.

The problem is I rather foolishly started in the corner and lined the boards up to the wall and not the joists. As a result the boards were not straight to the joists and a little off. This has left slight V gaps between the boards and the boards and wall. none of the gaps is more that 1/2 inch wide.

The question I have is, can I just tape the gaps and skim? Or fill the gaps with adhesive/Plaster first and then tape, or do the boards have to align perfectly? i.e Do I have to start again?

I would fill the gaps first, then scrim it, then skim next day.
Sometimes when you fill big gaps then skim straight after its sags slightly.
If you got gaps around the edge of the ceiling cove the room

Shocked NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DON'T COVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bang Head

Poor tradesmen’s excuse for finishing! Laughing

Coving should be a choice not a necessity for crap finishing.

God I hate coving in modern houses.

PVA the gaps and bond out to the boards. Skim when dry.

Hi moon33,

Reading some technical data on p/boarding it recomends to leaving a gap of about 1-2mm between boards so that the skim is pushed between joins to eliminate hairline cracking (although i still tight board ceilings and walls), so really as long as you don't have gaps over 5 mm i would have thought it will be fine. Needless to say i have seen plasterers scrim over and skim joints at about 10mm and they haven't cracked.
Hope this helps.

hi jaeger.
If I put the ceiling up you would not have bigs gaps to cover with coving!!!!!! But I did nt
What i meant was if HE had gaps around the edge of the room one option is to cover it with coving, thats if you like coving. Alot of people do, each to their own.
Gaps not around the edge make good and skim next day or like you say when dry.
Cheers Andy
