i can't remember weather this has been mentioned before or not: -
a lot of companies now offer package deals to customers, either free phone calls or unlimited for a monthly fee. all of which are subject to certain phone numbers being called, namely, they need to be geographical landline numbers.
as companies realised they could make a fortune by scrapping their landline number and taking on an 0870/0871/0845 etc, they could charge you for the use of that number. it has become an increasing argument for outlanding phone charges.
i find it incredibly annoying that i should have to pay outside my phone package to ring a company to sort out their mistakes.
a couple of years ago i was put onto this site: -

you can type in a company name or phone number and usually they have either freephone or geographical alternatives.
if you cannot find a number you require there is a forum board as well where you can post the request. it is also some useful reading.
how many of you know how much this costs you? or did you believe it was as cheap as they tell you? they always say "it's ok, 0845 is charged at local rate". yes it is but it is charged as an extra outside your phone contract but had it been geographical, it would have been free with your contract. |

I use that site Rich and find it very useful.
I find it annoying to find a local company advertising an 0870 number when they are in the next street.
Often these companies give out a UK '44' number for use from overseas, I use that without the 44 prefix.

I saidnoto0870 years ago. I use the 18866 service to cut down on charges, but they don't do 0871 numbers. _________________ I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.
