Finally got my PC sorted and it is now flying :huray:

All happed by accident really. Kaspersky was up for renewal, so downloaded new 2011 version. This improved things immediatley, but as I still had a couple of weeks licence left, didn't pay for new licence straightaway.

Then found it on offer at PC World, £23.99 for 3 licence version, instead of £39.99 Kaspersky wanted. So bought PC World offer just for the licence key.

There was an offer in the box for Tuneup 2010, free of charge. Downloaded this and even though I had been running ccleaner every 3 or 4 days, this found loads of problems all over the place, 600 odd in the registry alone, that had never been picked up by ccleaner.

PC is now the fastest and most stable it has ever been, all by chance and for free :thumbright:

Only downside is that I have now only got 3 licence version instead of the normal 5 I need.

Thats a con Kelly_eye.

They scan your computer, then say you have to buy the full version to fix it. ::b

KE,
Glary Utilitieshave a free version which will tune up your PC.

Just a word of advice to anyone using any cleaner that scans and cleans your registry, MAKE A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE RUNNING IT

There are differing views as to whether cleaning the registry will speed up your computer or not, I don't believe it does to any noticable degree, and the danger of killing your computer far out weighs any micro second gain in speed that you might obtain.

I do not dispute that G4Y has speeded up his computer but mainly through removal of temp files and other dross on the HD and not through cleaning the registry.

Good spot :thumbright:

Don't you just hate companies that do this? I also can't abide those that make you fill in an endless 'form' THEN say you have to pay for it...... :cussing:

I tried it ages ago kelly_eye, and it came up with a list about a mile long and how much faster the computer would be, so you press fix it, and then you get the message. ::b

You need to buy the full version. :B

So why would he want AVG 2011?
It does not do a tune up either.

They offer a "one off" tune up after you've installed it....

No mention of a free tune up on either of their links:
