OK - I *know* I should know this as I have been in IT for donkeys, but my excuse is that I've not been proper hands on for years Embarassed

SATA V PATA ....

Just bought a 2nd Hand AOpen XCCube AV PC to use as my Internet/ General Purpose/ Games Box (Flight Sim, AOE, that kind of thing).

System has come with a 80GB SATA Drive. I have a couple of good quality 160GB PATA Drives. But the System only has room for ONE hard drive internally

The Extra 80GB would be handy (never have too much storage Laughing ) but is not essential at all.

So ... Is there any great advantage in SATA which means I should just leave the original 80GB in place, or should I drop in my 160GB PATA instead and find more stuff to fill up the extra space Wink

Any Opinions?

Cheers

Hoovie :Salute:

One of many pages on the subject here

I know it's a bit old, but they reckon SATA is better than PATA, even before SATA 2 came out.

The SATA drive data transfer rate is far quicker than PATA, stick with the SATA drive and the transfer speed will be a lot better (when its reading/transfering data to and from the drive)

Personally if I needed more space I would go out and buy a bigger SATA drive as they are so cheap now and sell the old one on **ay. You can buy a 320gb SATA drive nowadays for around £50-£60.

Hope this helps

I have done some testing on this box and the SATA 80GB disk benchmarks a lot better then the PATA 160GB Disk

I've just bought a brand new SATA 500GB disk off a mate for £47.50 inc P&P Thumbright

SATA is faster! Your PATA has more space....your choice!
