Hi

I've recently renovated my house and got started on painting my kitchen ceiling the other day. Whilst painting I noticed nails (which were rusty) showing through the ceiling which had been plastered/skimmed. I've put filler over the nails and other cracks that were showing and sanded this down but whilst painting over it again (with matt emulsion) it still shows through ::b I would appreciate some advice on how to paint over these nails/cracks and have a nice smooth white ceiling :-P

........to add to my post, i've been told to put PVA over the nails/cracks and then paint over this. Would this be recommended?- if so, how much water would you add to the PVA before applying?.

PVA is no good.

Were the nails used not rust proof?

You could try painting over the heads with some stain blocker, such as Zinsser 123

Thanks for your reply, i'll give it a go. It looks as though the nails used were not rust proof. Not all the nails are showing as rusty though.
