Had a room skimmed recently and on the advise of the bloke in B&Q, gave it a coat in some cheap emulsion to seal, before i get round to the painting

a small patch of the wall has gone yellow, like a waterstain

the only time i have seen this before was when a plumber spilt a load of water in the loft and i came through and discolored the ceiling angry

question: Can fresh plaster, if not properly dry disclor paint in this way.....the patch in on an inside wall, half way up the wall so im at a loss where any water could have come from to just affect that one point. scratch

cheers..

(i'm gonna double this post up on the plastering forum in case someone sees it there....helpful to get a quick reply so i can sort any problem out tomorrow)

Sealing the plaster with diluted emulsion is ok, but you may of applied it before the plaster was dry enough. A better choice instead of emulsion would of been Dulux trade supermatt as described here-

thanks mate - so if not properly dry, then this would be a potential side effect as the water comes out the plaster???

i'm more concerned with ruling this out than having sprun a leak somewhere that i can't see and to the best of my knowledge have no pipe Shocked

Where exactly on the wall is the stain?

Is it at the top near the ceiling or is it a few feet from the top or bottom?

It's unlikely that it has been caused by a leak then IMHO

Perhaps it has been caused by some of the salts in the plaster?

scratch

Best thing is to ask the plasterer to come back and have a look, see what he says
