Hi,

Will i need to prop up about ten layers of single bricks [7 bricks in a row] to make a door opening below,or will i get away with it by taking out a line of bricks for the lintle without any support .

Any help would be kindly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Seven in a row is a bit dodgy, use one support in the middle.

I usually use heavy duty angle about 6 ~ 8mm which fits in quite nicely to 10mm joints. Just use a mortar raking blade on the whizzer, go to the depth of the angle leg and insert with about 150mm additional either side of the opening. Finish by fixing with direct (spax type) fixings 6.5 x 82mm at 200m centres on the upright leg, then choose your wall finish, dry line etc and job sorted. No real need to catnic or concrete lintel unless MASSIVEamount of weight above - heavy angle will take major loads at a standard door width of between 850 and 925.

I think you're all reading this wrong.

There's 7 bricks in a row and 10 bricks high.

The OP want to knock about 4 out and insert a lintel for a door frame.
