Simply things first, take the head off and check the pin has stuck.
It should lift up and down about 3mm, give it a squirt of wd40. _________________ Scruff |

hi i did that, well i couldn't remove the plastic TRV, so i turned off the ones i could (the hallway and kitchen radiators dnt have trvs) and i gave the radiator (which didn't work) a bang on the TRV and elbow and it worked-ish, however i noticed something...
the ones downstairs (exc hallway and kitchen) seem to get hot from the top and not so much at the bottom. also these are brand spanking new radiators the others are old, and the old ones are absolutly piping hot all over really good heat.
do i need to bleed the ones downstairs? (exc the kitchen and hallway?)
when the bioler guy put the new ones on he flushed the system and put a magnaclean on so a bit confused if some sludge in the system?? (i am guessing) |

As I said the pin is sticking, the head can be fixed in several ways, so a photo and we should be able to tell you.
Sounds like the radiators need some fine balancing, on all the ones that get very hot turn the lockshield valve down half a turn and open the ones that don't. leave for an hour then go round opening and closing each LV until they're all about the same.
Have you cleaned the Magnaclean out yet, they need doing frequently for a while, say once a week, till the magnet is clean _________________ Scruff |

hi thanks for the advice,
the magnaclean hasn't been cleaned as i lost the box with it! is it availble online or a novice diy person like me can do?
the other points i will ask someone to do it, as it sounds complex and i really dnt know what i am doing. is this a expensive thing for a plumber to do for me? |

Hey if you can tie you own shoe laces you can do it, easy
The lockshield valve head just pulls off, then it's just a case of opening and closing the spindle a tad until they're all about the same temperature.
To clean the magnaclean, turn the boiler/pump off, close the two quarter turn valves, (handle diagonal with the pipe) open the air vent on the top to release the pressure, unscrew the top and lift it and the plastic tube free from the pot, have a bowl or something underneath the first time you do it, take it to a tap then pull the magnet out from the tube, wash all the nasty stuff off, replace in the reverse order and do the top up hand tight, open vales, and let and air our. _________________ Scruff |
