Please help, this is the first time ive used this site,

A few years ago i got a plumber to remove a toilet from the outhouse and he used that drain for the outlet for the washing machine. The wahing machine is in another section of the outhouse and he ran the pipe through the brickwork around 10 foot to the drain. the drain is open apart from this pipe going in. He said he was going to come back and bung it but never did.

I was wondering about a couple of things....

!. If i was to bung it.. How do i do it and is this safe/advisable?
2. If i was to bung it, woulld this allow toxic gases or whatever up the waste tube and could this be damaging to the washing? As oppose to toxic gases entering the out house as i assume they have been for the last few years..

I am the least practical person you will meet but my instinct tells me that the way it has been left is potentially hazardous..

I would really appreciate any help and advice,,

Thanks

Bert

( I have tried to upload a photo.. Hopefully it has)

What you need is a rubber soil pipe reducer.

The fitting at the top of the page.

Thankyou for your response, will this slove the toxin/gases problem? Or is it not a problem? Im talking about them going through the the pipe to the washing machine and ultimately into the clothes.

And As i am a diy idiot, is this easy to fit?

Thanks again

Just pushes into the drain provided the pipe is clean on the inside.

Bevel the end of the waste pipe and push it into the rubber, Vaseline makes a good lubricant.

The stand pipe should have a trap so the smells wont be a problem.

I have got the item and fitted it, having put it back together the pipe work is now leaking, there must be 7 or 8 seperate pieces and I THINK i have put them back together correctly, perhaps i havn't.... I was wondering if this is common once they have been disturbed, wether a seal isnt as tight or whatever..

Do you think i need to replace the sections or is there a tape or sealant i can put around the joints?????

Thanks for your help scruff if u can help great or anyone else??

Thats solvent weld pipe, if it came apart they haven't welded it.

Get a pot of solvent weld, and use the brush supplied and paint the inside of the fitting and the outside of the pipe.

Push it together making sure it's in the right place because it goes off in seconds.

Cheers scruff,

These joints are just push joints (bends) and i don't actually think there are any rubbers or anything to help seal the joints, should you always use this solvent weld when using push joints?

The reason why im asking this is, do you not think i may be better buying new bits of connectors (bends) perhaps with some sort of rubbers built in or would i still need to buy the solvent weld anyway? Or would this be an un-nesesary expense?

Cheers mate, as for the smells, having pulled out the washing machine i noticed that the guy has fitted a small U bend
so i assume this will hold water and stop gases returning? The guy in the plumb shop suggested a trap with a one way flap that closes, and opens with the flow of water, i took your advice though when you said i probably wont need one... Even going into the outhouse this morning i can definatly smell the difference...

Thanks again mate your help is priceless for a novice like me and its actually making me feel more confident to tackle problems....!

The fittings you have are for solvent weld not push fit.

Just make sure they are clean first (emery cloth is good), and as said you need to work quick, do each joint as you go.
