Trees are great - when they are in the right place! (and the same can be said for houses as well, of course)
I had a Redwood (Sequoia) in my Garden when I moved here 18 months ago. It was totally overwhelming and when I asked a Tree surgeon for advice, he said that although the Redwood was actually his favourite tree and he was even off to California later that year to go see the Redwood forests, he would advise cutting it down.
When it did come down, all the neighbours cheered because it was such a blight!!
The Tree was much taller then all the houses nearby - and much younger!
If anyone wants to hug my Redwood, I'll send you a log from it _________________ If you have a son, DO NOT name him after a verb ....

Youre on!!!! I need someone to cuddle up to this winter
Only kidding!! Sequoia is a lovely wood to work with. Really soft grain and a lovely smell to it. I did a refit of a surf shop with about a grands worth. Did the counter and all the shelving in 3" thick waney edge with the bark still on it. Bloomin lovely with all its stainless machined bolts and frosted glass?? Shame the owner varnished it all a year later? He had customers asking for months where the nice smell went!!!
Anyways. If you're smart, then hire a arbourist with a mobile sawmill. Well worth the money. Have it chopped up and then stack it under a good cover. In a year or so it'll be worth a load of cash if its dried out nice, or you can build yourself a load of furniture with it!! Save a mint!! _________________ http://www.carhartt.com/ |

Hi
Trees help save the planet so any one who just them down for no other reason than I am just feed up with it needs to be publicly flogged in my book. In days of old builders who cut down trees was made to plant ten in its place and I say bring back this rule.
I am extremely pleased that the council as put a perseveration order on your tree.

| Last year I cut down 6 Leylandii, remember when they were sold for hedging? The biggest was 30' tall and 10" diameter. They were too close to the house, and I was concerned that a surveyor would query that when I come to move. I have kept the largest trunks, and hope to make something out of them later. I have planted some more trees, but further away, and there are some oaks I planted 20 years ago, growing at my son's junior school. |

have not read all the replies, but before you get the tree cut down, although you checked last year about presivation orders, re check.
I got told anyone could ring and ask for a presivation order at any time...
not 100% sure on this for but apparently its common during arguements of neigbours... so i was told by a neigbour few years back who was a tree surgeon. might just have been Bull tho...
Im sure certain criteria has to be met for a preservation order to be awarded. _________________ If you can't convince'm with arguments,
