This is an additional point to a job I just posted about, but is really a different subject, so here's a new thread.

I just misted a wall using white albany trade flat matt emulsion.

Two things I hate about this paint:

1) You can only dilute up to 10% to meet Albany's specs. Even their technical line will only stand by the 10%. This means that the mist goes on quite thick, nothing like a nice wet 5:1.

2) Albany paint has none of the bite on fresh plaster compared to DSM. When you run a tool over it to deal with blemishes, the paint acts like a vinyl and literally leaps off the wall.

This is not the first time this has happend, and I am fed up with Albany Matt now. It's possible that I had a poor batch of paint, but unlikely.

I wondered what your own experiences have been with Albany.

Note that this is not slating Albany completely - on the whole their paints are good, but I will restrict them to re-decorating jobs rather than first finihs.

New one on me, never used the stuff, but I would suspect that the tech bod's are playing it very safe with the 10% rule? scratch

Albany paints are from Brewers, and their quite popular.

Brewers is a trade decorating firm that's been going about 25 years, although these days they are a little more retail focussed, their shops all have a trade counter.

I have a trade card at Brewers. Do you think that their Albany paint is better than say Dulux Trade Matt emulsion? Its just taht I have finished a 10 litre can of brilliant white and need some more.

Thanks

Peter C

In all honesty Peter C I always use their Supacover and tend to stick to Dulux for colours, however in the last couple of weeks I have used the Albany soft sheen and matts and they are OK, but if the job budget/price can accommodate Dulux then thats what I will always sway to Thumbright

The nearest Brewers to us is in Bristol...they are a large independant (probably the largest actually) but based mostly in the South and Southest of England

Being independant they do an interesting range..different from the normal same ol you find in all the trade places.

They also do a very good brush...the Albany Super, used to be made by hamiltons.

Their home brand paint though...nahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
