Hi,

I want to fit mixer taps in my bathroom. I have a conventional, gravity fed hot water system. The system has about 3 metres of head over the taps themselves (approx 0.3 bar head). My cold mains is at a fairly high pressure (not measured).

To prevent the mixer taps from allowing the cold supply to overpower the hot supply and flood my hot water header tank, I am thinking of fitting non-return valves. Would this make a big difference to the flow rates on the hot water?

I have considered the option of fitting a power-shower pump to my system to get a higher pressure on the hot water. I do not intend to fit a shower, just mixer taps for the bath and wash basin.

Is it "do-able/acceptable" to fit a power shower pump to boost the hot water supply pressure? If so, how should the pump's motor be controlled?

Cheers,

Rob

First the head is not from the storage tank to the taps.

It's from the storage tank to the highest part of the hot water system, it could be the top of the cylinder or the pipes in the roof.

An negative head pump works on pressure drop so would be ok.

An positive head pump works on flow so unlikely to work
