I've got to put together a quote for a customer that doesn't want any skirting or architrave,

They want a kind of stop bead fitting everywhere but I've not really heard of them before. Has anyone else had to do this??

Cheers
Baz

I have been asked to plaster rooms with no skirting or architrave. I asked the customer what they were going to do around the door because the architrave covers the bit where all the stresses are and where cracks would normally appear. They hadn't really thought it through.

Commercial door linings are sometimes designed for use with no architrave and a stop bead would be the obvious way to get a neat edge where the gap between lining and wall is. This is caulked before decorating. This isn't complicated, but you will work alot slower if you have no skirting to hide the mess at the bottom. It can be quite tiring having to trowel out and finish properly right next to the floor. Needs to be totally dust free and be careful what you kick up as it will end up on the wall where it meets the floor.

Is it a commercial or domestic job?

Vanity projects like this are usually done by people who "know better" than everyone in the construction industry. I sacked myself from a job earlier this year where the client wanted to reinvent the wheel and didn't want to follow any rules including the laws of physics.

"I want the (waste) pipe parallel with the trunking and the trunking is level because I have checked"

" The waste pipe has to have a gradient because water flows downwards."

" Well I still don't like it!!"

not to mention the amount of damp they will get in the walls if you plaster all the way down to the floor.

Shadow gaps are the fave firm with architects who dont have to plaster or paint the fookers! TBH they do look quite nice if done properly but additional time and dosh are needed to get this right!!

Make sure you get the right sized bead too!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to fill out to a 90degree angle when the plasters used a bead which was too small, fooking knightmare and of course i had the client from hell!! I quote "If you lay on your stomach and look through the patio doors you can see that some areas arent straight, but from inside it looks fine" After 3 visits back to the house, the last i did absolutely nothing and just made some noises, loool. Looks so much better thankyou :?
