PostPosted: Thu Aug 09, 2018 9:09 pm
A cell box switch, is used on access control applications. ie, at an appartment complex, the motorised gate has a small box inside. A gms based switch. You phone a dedicated number from your phone, and the switch picks up the call, per say, and actuates motor to open the gate.

So, i started thinking. I want to use said switch in my car. To phone it, to let it disarm the alarm, or open ...

PostPosted: Tue Jul 31, 2018 5:54 pm
Hi

I have had this clicking noise when turning slowly/stationary and also when braking. I've been under and had a tug on the drop links and n/s one makes a similar noise to what I'm hearing inside the car. Is it possible for them click when turning or would it be just when going up and down? Im not sure if they actually turn with the wheels or not! Total novice when it comes to ...

 Post subject: Red light camera
PostPosted: Sun Jul 29, 2018 2:04 am
Hi,
I was by a junction to turn right. I waited until the light went green and then pulled forwards ready to turn (it wasn't a box junction). I waited for the traffic on the other lane to clear and then accelerated. However as I was turning I got flashed twice by the red light camera from the opposite lane. Does anyone know how to handle this?

A question (rather more than one question) for probably Bob but happy to hear from everyone.

My neighbour has been fixing his 2002ish 1600 16v laguna, petrol, engine type I believe BG05. Latest issue following a replacement of crankshaft pulley and then wishbone goes like... car will not start. It started once once when the pulley was replaced, some smoke somewhere from the engine compartment (possibly from the ancillary belt), then more work on the ...

Post subject: Modifying an axle stand.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 18, 2018 8:41 am
I have a pair of Axle stands, not modern chintzy stuff that looks like it is made from tin foil, proper English made solid ones using thick steel, they are heavy and sturdy.
However they have an annoying little niggle when combined with my car/jack. There are 3 pin holes, spaced 2" on centre. Whenever I jack the car up, there is never a hole in the right place and I always end up having ...

Post subject: 2008 astra gearbox whine?
PostPosted: Mon Jul 09, 2018 10:32 pm
Hi all new to the forum.
Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on my car issue...basicly it's making a whining sound when slowing down and seems only to be in 3rd and 4th gear the sound is very similar to the sound when reversing a car quite fast. The car feels fine to drive goes into gear fine and pulls very well. It's a 1.9 Cdti astra 2008. If anyone has any sort ...

 Post subject: Car bike rack.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 07, 2018 5:16 pm
Having trouble finding a roof bike rack for my car. I would prefer a fork mount system as it would be a nice positive clamping method (and easier to load) but these either don't fit my roof rack or are super expensive.

Having thoughts about making my own. I though unistrut or similar, but would the rear tyre sit in the channel ok? I reckon it wouldn't be too difficult to make something even tougher ...

Post subject: Anyone identify this bit of my Transit Connect TDCi engine?
PostPosted: Thu Jul 05, 2018 6:40 pm
Okay, as I've said before, I'm crap with cars and vans and that. But my van has developed an oil leak and it looks relatively easy to fix -- if only I could identify the name of the part I need to order!

It's a 2006 1.8L Transit Connect TDCi diesel (I think that makes it a Euro4 engine). And the leaky bit is a braided rubber hose that connect to an err... round black ...

Post subject: Haldex clutch and rear diff - whine then bang!
PostPosted: Tue Jul 03, 2018 7:39 pm
Just in case similar things happen to anyone else on here with a 4wd haldex clutch/diff unit on their car: If there is a strange whine after the haldex clutch has had an oil change (to me it sounded almost like there was a quiet motorbike following the car), get it looked at promptly. I had this, and then the thing overheated and failed abruptly on the first long journey (naturally, whilst in the fast ...
