Post subject: Best Circular Saw with Hard Case?
PostPosted: Thu May 03, 2012 10:19 am
Hi all,

I'm looking to get hold of a circular saw that comes with a hard case. I'm fed up of trying to transport my tools in soft cases so from now on everything I buy I intend to have a hard case...

Now I'm a experienced DIYer, carry out house renovations, and create the odd piece of furniture. As such I don't want to spend too much, but it needs to have a fair ...

Post subject: Thin blade power saw for ripping light expensive softwood?
PostPosted: Wed May 02, 2012 10:27 am
I'm a bit of an amateur boatbuilder (not sure which bit!) and I have to rip long lengths of expensive douglas fir or spruce, max ca. 25mm cutting thickness, into 3-4mm wide strips for laminating curved components like gunwales or inner ribs. A standing or table saw is better than a portable saw for this work.

My buying habits might be described as "low budget".

My old Power Devil circular saw (set in a home-made ...

 Post subject: Which Builders Wheelbarrow?
PostPosted: Mon Apr 30, 2012 9:09 pm
I'm after a new circa 120 litre builders wheelbarrow. Can anyone recommend any specific manufacturers or their suppliers?

What's the consensus on whether galvanised or plastic barrows are best?

What are the best shovels and spades for garden and building work in terms of value for money and quality?

Spear & Jackson appear everywhere, but do they offer the best value for money and quality out of all the brands? Their range is enormous for a start!

Should I opt for a steel, timber or a more expensive polyfibre shaft?

Post subject: Question re old B&Q Performance Power CLM600CSL power chisel
PostPosted: Mon Apr 30, 2012 4:29 pm
I bought this Performance Power CLM600CSL power chisel secondhand but hardly used. It is basically an angle grinder body and spindle with a cam and a chisel holder attached. B&Q stopped selling these 9 years ago. I like it and it works fine but I have a question about it.

Attached are 2 photos of the tool:
Photo 1 shows the whole tool system with accessories.

Just bought this on a whim while having my breakfast (damn those pop up adverts!) :cb anyone got one?

I'm not expecting mega power but it should be handy for general cleaning up and save me having to get George out of the van.

I have one of these:

Bought it years ago for doing some minor rounding over on an old project, but it's like new.

Just wondering what sort of capabilities it has, in the future if needed would it be up to cutting a kitchen worktop if i had the correct jog and bit?

Spec below:

Input power 1100 watts
Variable speed 8000-27000 rpm
Collet size 6mm, 6.35mm & 8mm
Plunge depth 55mm
Spindle lock ...

Post subject: Where do you stop?
PostPosted: Sun Apr 29, 2012 11:58 am
I have what i would consider a very comprehensive tool kit for a DIYER, but i find myself lusting over tools that i may need in the future and find myself buying stuff because i anticipate i might need it, rather than actually needing it. I then find myself trying to think of projects to do in order to justify their cost.

Do i need help, lol? Is the a local TAA (tool addicts anonymous) ...
