What is it with me and drains?

Had to go to the bungalow the other day...there is a problem with mould in the corner of one of the rooms. Sigh.

I know I sorted out all problems UNDER the floor in there, joists replaced and things put in place to stop damage in the future so I thought it was all good.

Looks like there is a problem with the drains outside as the bricks ...

Post subject: Who Are They Kidding?
PostPosted: Tue Apr 24, 2012 11:48 am
I am thinking about having a glass room added to the house.
I've gathered some quotations, which include a couple from big name conservatory companies. The quotes, in my humble and uninformed opinion are way over the top.
It makes me wonder how much the sales guys take for commission? 20%? 35%? 50%? Does anybody know?
I have one quote that gives the price as 62,000, and then in the next line, says, 25,000 discount, ...

 Post subject: Petrol Station Paranoia
PostPosted: Mon Apr 16, 2012 6:32 pm
Every time I drive past a petrol station just now, I seem to automatically look at those electronic price boards they have and think, 'How much will it have gone up today?'.

It's getting to the stage that it seems to be more expensive every day, or is that just Grumpy Auld Bugger syndrome biting a bit harder than normal I wonder?

 Post subject: Plumbase
PostPosted: Thu Apr 12, 2012 8:33 pm
I don't generally shop at plumbase as they are too expensive if you walk in off the street but recently I have tried them a couple of times. The local plumbase used to be WPS plumbing, but when it was taken over the prices increased dramatically so I stopped shopping there.

Last week I was doing a bit of plumbing that is not your normal run of the mill job and so I required a ...

 Post subject: Van insurance extortion
PostPosted: Sat Apr 07, 2012 7:05 pm
Well it's that time of year again when the van insurance is due. I have just had a renewal through from my current insurer who want £957.13

The van is a Mercedes Vito 109cdi, 5 seater.
Miles travelled each year <5000 and value of van probably £4000 or less, although the insurers really should not ask you this as they only pay out what they think your vehicle is worth should they have to.

Post subject: Local shops versus the internet
PostPosted: Wed Mar 28, 2012 9:55 pm
People have mixed feelings about buying online as they often believe it harms local shops. I normally do a mixture of both but to be honest I am more inclined to use the internet for several reasons.

Today I wanted some tanking slurry, so I telephoned a local company in the next town to check suitability. They assured me that it was suitable and so I said I'd be there in the next couple of ...

Post subject: Asda Tech Trade-in - BEWARE!!!!
PostPosted: Mon Mar 26, 2012 10:58 pm
Can't get to sleep as this is driving me mad - I'm so angry I could scream!!

Found myself a nice bargain of a phone, so I thought I'd upgrade and get rid of my old Samsung Galaxy S.

I'm not a massive fan of eBay, so decided to use one of the tech trade-in sites, for recycling mobile phones and the like.

Got a valuation I was happy with and decided to go with ...
