Post subject: New Woodstove fitted - stove pipe has lifted 15mm
PostPosted: Mon Sep 24, 2018 3:43 pm
I recently purchased a new build property with a 4kW Broseley stove connected to the existing clay chimney. After a short first burn ( short because the curing process kept setting off the smoke alarms), it would seem that the stove pipe has risen unevenly on the stove collar leaving an 18mm gap on the right, with a slightly smaller gap on the left. Large chunks of the fire cement around the pipe/collar have fallen ...

Post subject: Are you considering installing a wood burning stove?
PostPosted: Thu Jun 28, 2018 10:55 am
If you are considering installing a wood burning stove you are best advised to start booking an installer now as from September onwards until March you will likely find the best installers are all booked up. Many people wait until the last minute to buy their stove, just before the colder seasons kick in, unaware that there is a good chance they could miss out on use of their stove for the majority of the ...

Post subject: Multi fuel burner removal
PostPosted: Sun Jun 10, 2018 1:20 pm
We have an inherited burner in our lounge which we want to remove and have a gas fire fitted.
We are struggling to figure out how to remove the stove pipe.
It is a 5kw stove so not huge but the pipe is solid in place.

Thanks for any advice.

Post subject: Opening up fireplaces for log burners
PostPosted: Thu Jan 25, 2018 3:04 pm
Hi guys,

I am currently in the process of opening up two chimney breasts in the dining room and living room for log burners to go in. I am trying to do as much of the works as I can to keep costs down. I have a couple of queries relating to both fireplaces so I will explain both issues separately with pictures below:

LIVING ROOM
I have an oversized fireplace surround to set against ...

Post subject: Odd fire cement behaviour?
PostPosted: Tue Nov 21, 2017 9:46 am
Came to light my wood burning stove this morning and noticed there was a ring of broken fire cement in segments which appears to have sort of 'popped out' of the flue where it enters the stove.

Is this normal behaviour for fire cement to lift itself up and out of a joint??

And the real question: is resealing this something I can do myself or do I have to get a HETAS £££ guy ...

Post subject: Wood burning stove flue sealant
PostPosted: Tue Oct 24, 2017 9:37 pm
Hi

We have a soft black sealant around where the flue of the pot belly stove enters the chimney (see picture). Unfortunately some of it has come away, does anyone know which product & brand I need to buy in order to patch this up? I’m assuming it needs to be something specific to this particular application and not a general purpose mastic.

Thanks
Conor

Post subject: Finish around wood burning stove
PostPosted: Sun Oct 01, 2017 1:41 pm
Got a job coming up soon, finishing plasterwork around a woodburning stove. there is a large recess and the clients want a flat finish on the returns, leaving the brickwork exposed at the back, it is a small stove and has clearance of 450mm either side and 1200mm vertically. Due to the brickwork I plan to dot & dab the returns and make good onto the existing wall.

Question is, can I use pink heat ...

Post subject: Cost of HETAS stove installation check
PostPosted: Thu Sep 07, 2017 9:55 am
This is a long story which has been shortened significantly for the purposes of posing this question simply, so in case you're wondering about the wisdom of having doe the below...we know...and this is not the full version of the story!

So, (for the purposes of this question), let's say we disconnected a wood burning stove from its flue and pulled it forward in order to easily paint behind it.

When 'we' pushed it back ...
