Post subject: coving in the bathroom? Posted: Fri Mar 09, 2012 2:17 pm |

Is it possible? I've always avoided doing it due to the fear of it falling off from the moisture content / humidity / condensation in the room, but now I'm starting to plan out the bathroom I'm seriously considering it again.
elsewhere in the house I'm fitting plain polystrene coving, but for the bathroom I'm thinking it better (and possibly stronger) to go for strong moulded (still plain profile) plaster coving, possibly also screwing it ...

Post subject: Sand Cement Crack Fill Posted: Tue Mar 06, 2012 4:59 pm |

I've just filled a moderate crack in an internal blockwork spine wall following a structural engineer's recommendation. It's about 80mm deep and 10mm wide. Any advice as to how long I should leave this before patch plastering; I'm wanting to use a gypsum plaster undercoat with EML.
Thanks in advance.

Dear all
Can you help me please? Im currently having a replacement flat roof installed in my utility room and re-configuring the layout so that half of the space will become my office. As this is attached to the side of the property it gets very cold in the winter and I wish to make this area thermally efficient.
I was considering using Expanded Polystrene beads (EPS) in the cavity walls, but as the new ...

Post subject: Do we need a vent in the wall? Plastering job Posted: Wed Feb 29, 2012 1:44 pm |

Hi
(new to the site and DIY for that matter!)
I have a plastering/wall mounted electric fire question.
Just had our old fireplace plaster boarded and plastered to make way for a lovely wall mounted electric fireplace (one of those flat-screen type ones). The old fire place was a gas fire and so had a chimney breast to let out heat. The new fireplace is being mounted half way up the wall where the chimney ...

Post subject: Rough price for this please... Posted: Mon Feb 20, 2012 12:46 am |

Hi,
Im building a false wall, and this will be plasterboarded and then plastered.
Im just wondering what it'll "roughly" cost me to get a professional to come and do it for me and save me messing it up myself.
Its 8sqm's in size, the room will be almost empty but there will be nothing down the end that will need plastering.
Any thoughts?

This woodburning stove was fitted a few weeks ago, I was brought in to do finish plaster and decoration. Picture shows the extent of new plaster, 3-4mm deep on top of existing bonding (on solid brickwork), the builder had fitted stop beads to the outer face and used non-solvent adhesive rather than a mechanical fix. I gave it a coat of dilute PVA and 2 coats Easifil then sand, seal & decorate.
Two weeks later ...

We would be grateful of any advice you may be able to offer......we are renovating our 1850s built cottage built from soft red bricks and lime mortar with 9 inch solid walls and no dpc. There are several damp issues of condensation, penetrating and rising damp. The walls have been covered with gypsum plaster and upon removal the brick work underneath was sound but extremely wet. We have had the plaster off for approx one ...
