Post subject: Trench around outside of house for drainage
PostPosted: Thu May 16, 2019 1:53 pm
Hi all,

Hopefully im posting this in the right section. I was after some advice. We currently have what can be described as a trench around the outside of our house into which the drainage pipes drain into. There also appears to be an air vent on one section..which I'm guessing is for the foundations? The trench is snug up against the wall of the house

It doesn't look very nice at the moment. I ...

Post subject: Re-Tiling Exterior Quarry Tiles
PostPosted: Thu May 16, 2019 10:00 am
I've had enough of the pathway leading up to our front door, it's in a total mess with cracked / missing tiles etc. and I want to completely re-do it. To be honest it's needed doing for years but have always put it off to 'next year' as I don't know where to start.

It's a typical Victorian terraced house with a pretty bog standard looking diamond arrangement of alternating black and red quarry tiles, ...

 Post subject: Patio Foundations
PostPosted: Thu May 16, 2019 9:42 am
Hi all,

Currently I have decking down which surrounds my conservatory. I am planning on replacing the decking with a patio. Under the decking is about 200mm of pebbles which was a base for the decking.

My question is before I lay patio I am presumably going to need something a bit more stable than pebbles as they move quite a bit... My question is how much hardcore (in mm) would you lay on top ...

Post subject: cavity closures in stone
PostPosted: Thu May 16, 2019 7:04 am
Hi, could someone advise how to cavity close a new build extension with natural stone outer skin. The stone is extremely varied in thickness and the cavity closure has a neat edge which will not butt to the uneven edge. I am thinking of adding some continuous dpc and expanding foam to underlap the gaps.

Post subject: Dumb DIY novice question - fixing to plasterboard
PostPosted: Wed May 15, 2019 4:27 pm
Hello! So, I am completely new to any form of DIY, and I've just bought a house with my partner but it turns out he's even more clueless than me

We have lots of things that need to go on the walls, and I want to learn how to do it because it seems ridiculous to pay someone to do something so (apparently?) simple.

My first ...

Post subject: How To Create A Private Proxy Server
PostPosted: Wed May 15, 2019 4:13 pm
This is not about how to set up proxies in Windows!

I have a 3rd party php script running on my webserver, which is based in Croatia- no big deal - most web servers are somewhere else.
BUT - I want the script (which supports the use of proxies) to connect to the internet as if it was coming from my own home IP address. To do this it would need to connect through a ...

 Post subject: Silliconing advise
PostPosted: Wed May 15, 2019 2:01 pm
Finally finished tilling my bathroom thank God haha, to say I learned the hard way would be an understatement!

Anyway I'm at the point of silliconing around the bath, in the corners of the room and where the tiles meet the ceiling.

I'm going with white around the bath and ceiling and a colour match with the grout down the corners of the room.

My question is how do I go about doing this is ...

 Post subject: 20x40 Aluminium Profile
PostPosted: Wed May 15, 2019 10:54 am
I'm after 2 meters of standard 20x40 aluminium profile with a 6mm slot.

I can get this online but the postage is nearly more than double the price of the item.

Does anyone know of a place which sells this in the Manchester area?

Thanks

Post subject: How to make a warm floor
PostPosted: Wed May 15, 2019 8:11 am
Hello. I plan to warm the bathroom floor with running hot water in my house. What pipes would you recommend? I plan to fill them with concrete on top and then cover them with tiles. I don't want them inside to start leaking.
